If you have lost teeth in the upper jaw, your supporting bone tissue may begin to be resorbed, leading to a loss of bone tissue in the area of the lost tooth or teeth. Supporting bone tissue may also be lost due to periodontal disease or other factors. If this is the case for you, our dentists may recommend a sinus lift to replace the lost bone tissue. Also known as sinus augmentation, this treatment is often recommended prior to implant placement in order to provide implants in the upper jaw with a stable foundation.
When you receive a sinus lift procedure, our dentists will gently lift the sinus membrane and push it away from your jaw. The bone grafting material is then added to the area where the sinus was in order to add to the bone structure and increase bone density in the treated area. After your sinus lift procedure, there will be a period of four to nine months to allow the grafted material to heal and integrate with the natural bone before any implants can be placed. Our dentists and team will provide you with a detailed timeline and post-treatment care instructions to help you recover and receive the maximum benefits of your treatment.
